Loose files and archives are generally not the records that first come to mind when we dive into genealogy. In fact, those words sound scary and possibly daunting.

Melissa simplifies the archive research process in your as part of the Lake Havasu Genealogical Society spring eConference "Moments of their Lives."  Her session:




The Moments of Their Lives eConference is a fundraiser for the Lake Havasu Genealogical Society which is 'dedicated to collecting and preserving genealogical and historical data. The Lake Havasu Genealogical library currently has over 2,000 volumes of family history and genealogy books and over 6,000 periodicals.  The Lake Havasu Genealogical Society receives 25% of each registration fee to support their library and other objectives. 

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

 During the Moments of Their Lives eConference, we will examine non-traditional records rich with in-depth details about your dearly departed. The eConference is open to anyone, with an internet connection, ready to have fun while learning!

This eConference features four hours of interactive instruction. Many speakers will take questions throughout their presentations! The speakers will convene for a final panel discussion to answer questions not finished during the webinars or any additional questions you have. It will be a great day for education and entertainment.

Melissa Barker is a Certified Archives Manager currently working as the Houston County, Tennessee Archivist. She writes a popular blog entitled A Genealogist in the Archives, The Archive Lady bi-weekly column, the monthly Archive Lady’s Corner column, and reviews the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) magazine FORUM. That's only a small sampling of the writing and lecturing she does!

When Do You Post a Second Photo on Find A Grave?

Many people have varying degrees of photography skills. Some are point and shoot photographers. Others are very skilled. In the age when we're able to take photos of gravestones, the question arises, when should we post a second photo on a Find A Grave profile (or other websites)? When I go to a cemetery I attempt to follow a few rules: Make it Tidy Get Close Capture the Lot When I do that, I generally have good results when capturing a gravestone. Best Reason to Share a Proof Copy of Your Family History

Have you written a family history? Are you hesitant to print it for fear there are mistakes from the grammatical to the historically accurate? Why not publish a proof copy and share with a few family members? You'll soon learn the best reason to share a proof copy, is feedback. My goal in 2017 was to finish the final draft of the book about my grandpa Lewis Brown. I've shared stories about him on this blog before, and I use his story often when I teach how to write family histories. However, Lewis' story needed to leave my computer and reside on my bookshelf so my children will know about this beloved great grandpa. To edit my drafts, I had used  Grammarly.com  to catch most of the glaring mistakes.
